Before I go to bed, I wanted to share with you the Highlight of my day. I went for my daily run/workout this evening as usual. On the 9th lap, right before I was about to finish my jog, I noticed something extremely beautiful that made me freeze in my tracks. Normally, I wouldn’t stop running until I complete the 10 laps but this one was worth the break.
Right there, in the middle of the track, about a 100 feet before me there was an elderly couple that was walking together and holding hands. They were no more than 65-70 years old…both with thinning white hair, walking briskly.
In a matter of seconds my heart started overflowing with emotions. Something inside me made me walk up to them and greet them. I said, “Good evening to you. I hope I’m not being nosey but I just wanted to let you know you look so cute together. I thought you should know.”
Their faces lit up like Christmas lights. They thanked me graciously. Then the old lady said that her husband died 2 years ago and her friend’s wife died last year. They were neighbours all these years and she asked him to move in with her. And then she added, “But NO sex!” We started laughing. Then the old man added, “Oh, I still managed to “hit” the gold!” That made us laugh even harder. Not only cute but with a great sense of humor too!
The next thing she said was…the most important thing in life is to have a companion…and that’s what they found in each other.
As she said it, I felt as if I experienced a great moment of Truth…raw, unedited, pure Truth!
The old couple taught me something invaluable today at the track. It taught me that what it boils down to is finding and marrying a partner with whom you can build that companionship throughout the years. Sex, money, jobs, material stuff, problems all come and go. The only thing that truly matters is that companionship.
THAT IS THE ESSENSE OF TRUE LOVE!
…and THAT was the lesson I learned today…thanks to that short encounter at the track.
