Apathy

As I grow older I’ve changed my perception of people with different opinions than mine. I used to get upset when someone disagreed with me. Sometimes I spent hours of energy and effort trying to convince them in the rightfulness of my argument. Today I praise and respect people with different opinions even if I know in my heart they are wrong. At least they have a passion to defend what they believe in.

What I have difficulty tolerating are the people with no opinion at all. The apathy of our society is disturbing to say the least. The average American has been brainwashed to the point where questioning and expressing opinion varying from the common ideals is viewed highly negative. Individuality and creativity are highly suppressed; indifference and complacency are highly encouraged.

It makes you wonder if we live in a society composed of humans or an army made up by robots…

‘By far the most dangerous foe we have to fight is apathy – indifference from whatever cause, not from a lack of knowledge, but from carelessness, from absorption in other pursuits, from a contempt bred of self satisfaction.” ~ Willian Osler
