Let me first say that all kefir grains I sell are in perpetual fermentation state, meaning they are healthy, happy and consistently multiplying. The likelihood of them being “not good” is very small.

From time to time I get emails from customers who do not seem to be able to get successful results making water kefir. Here are some possible reasons:

- temperature of the room. if too cold, it would take much longer for the kefir to ferment.
- longevity of fermentation. you want them to be sitting and fermenting for at least 24 hours.
- the ratio of water and sugar to grains. it should be 1-1-1. if too much sugar or water, the kefir will ferment at different rate.
- and of course, the grains are living culture and may take some time to readjust after being in transit.

In any case, please refer to my manual for detailed instructions on how to care for your water kefir.

I’ve had my kefir grains since last year and it’s not doing well. I’ve tried feeding it with organic molasses with white sugar but that didn’t work very well. I’ve rested it for a few days and it’s not multiplying. I started out with more than 5 jars and now only one at best?

The issue is that you have diabetes. I do not recommend Master Cleanse for anyone who should watch their blood sugar levels closely.
